I honestly don't remember when or where in Oklahoma these were taken, I just know they exist.
adventure
excursion: Mesa Verde National Park
The cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde are absolutely mind boggling. I vaguely remember visiting them on a school trip when I was in the 5th grade, so I jumped at the chance to visit again on the way home from Moab.
It was getting late in the day, and a few of the areas were closed off due to recent damage, so I didn't get to explore as much as I would have liked. All the more reason to head back that way ASAP.
excursion: Cape Lookout
Last November during our trip up to Portland, we took a day to visit some water at Cape Lookout. Cold beaches beat warm beaches any day.
We got out there just in time to watch the tide come up and a storm roll in - needless to say it was the best. We got thoroughly (and happily) soaked and sand covered before heading to a tiny pub to warm up.
tourist: Emporia
For most people, Emporia is just a cute little town to drive through. But, if disc golf is big in your life, it's a cute little town you HAVE TO drive through on the way to South Dakota so you can tell your husband you saw the magical place where his favorite discs come from. Either way, if you ever find yourself there, stop by Commercial Street Diner and get yourself some stellar breakfast.
tourist: Roswell
We don't have to talk about how I'm about a year late posting this trip, right? Okay, great.
I love knowing that Roswell is a short day trip away, but also a little sad that I don't go there more often. It's a pretty small place, but I would love to spend more time wandering around and taking in all the kitschy goodness.
lately: Road Trips
"Lately" is a bit of a loose term in this case, but I'm very slowly sorting through all the film from the last few months of trips. Nebraska, South Dakota and Kansas all coming soon!
in my bag: Family Reunion
When it comes to certain things, I tend to be an overpacker. There's no use trying to deny it. I'm driving up to Nebraska/South Dakota for a week...here's all the film I think I need to fit into my bag:
- 35mm Revolog 600nm
- 35mm CineStill 800Tungsten
- 35mm Ektar 100
- 35mm Portra 160, 3 rolls
- 35mm Ilford HP5 Plus, 2 rolls
- 35mm Velvia 100, 2 rolls
- 35mm Provia 100F
- 35mm Provia 400X
- Instax Wide, 2 packs
- Instax Mini (as much as I end up buying)
- 120 Portra 400, 5 rolls
- 120 Provia 100F
- 120 Velvia 100
- 120 Ilford HP5 Plus
- 120 Ektar 100
...y'all my 35mm of choice doesn't even function properly as of right now. But, I feel the need to get some good use out of it, even if it means buying out every battery store on the way.
In other news, it's a good thing I have this week to get my bag in order. It's the tiniest bit of a mess right now. One day I'll buy a bigger one for travel - this one is the cutest, but not the most suited to my travel tendencies.
excursion: Palo Duro Canyon
I know I've mentioned it about a thousand times before, but I can't get enough of living so close to Palo Duro Canyon. Recently, I took advantage of the cooler fall weather, and my only free Saturday this month to just wander around and enjoy the scenery. I'm already looking forward to my next excuse to head out there.
local: TriState Fair
All of my feelings about the fair pale in comparison to how I feel about my new favorite dessert, fried oreos. I know it sounds like a dubious concept, but y'all, they are SO GOOD.
I was able to make it out to the fair not once, but twice this year - it was quite the social week! My first excursion was with the delightful and talented Caitie, and for the second I had the opportunity to host Shannon and Hillary-Anne on their way through town as they headed to Montana.
tourist: Texas Travel
Let’s be honest, once we spotted a giant rest stop lit up like the Texas flag, how could we not stop??
We were greeted by decent Pokemon hunting, a “space” coffee machine and pixel reminiscent mosaic walls. All the makings of a perfect stopping place in my book.
