Top Three:
- Bright Dead Things, @adalimonwriter
- Tender is the Flesh, @agustinabazterrica
- Milk Blood Heat, @deezybotpress
Highlights:
- The Art of Showing Up (@the_rewm) is now on the required reading list for my friendship
- @gaileyfrey can do no wrong and I will read anything they write
camping club: Mt. Nebo
Camping Club’s first official excursion was a bit too chilly for much photo taking, but believe me when I say that the view from our campsite was STUNNING.
lately: 2020 Reading Stats
2020 was a lot of things, so let’s talk about BOOKS. Graduating was the best thing for my reading list, second only to book club and the magnificent tracker Adrienne created.
Highlights:
- my deep and abiding love for Wilder Girls
- ditching goodreads
- the full list of books which I am ready to discuss at any moment
- an already packed 2021 list that is always accepting new suggestions
tourist: Thorncrown Chapel
Northwest Arkansas has quickly become one of my favorite places to explore. Thorncrown Chapel had been on my list to visit since before the move from Texas, so I’m glad finally had a chance to head that way recently.
I definitely spent more time being awed by the space than taking photos of it.
video: Quarantine 2020
Nothing like a global pandemic and subsequent shut down to derail your last semester of grad school! One of my courses shifted the final video project into an opportunity to showcase the reality of life at the current moment in time. The difference just between March and May is wild to grasp, much less what the rest of the year will look like.
tourist: St. Joseph Cemetery
During my December travels, I had the opportunity to stop by the “wrong way” cemetery in Rayne, Louisiana for a little gloomy morning wandering.
Unlike every other Christian cemetery in the country, the graves face north-south, rather than east-west. As if that wasn’t fascinating enough, it was also my first experience with above-ground crypts. #spooky
quality time: Sunday Film
As much as I love a fully planned, adventure filled trip, it’s nice to have some time to do nothing. Part of the birthday trip shenanigans included time for Air Bnb breakfast, plus time to shoot with Elizabeth (because of course) and it couldn’t have been a nicer morning if we tried.
portrait: 28
Having a late December birthday is the best because I get a few extra days to settle into my newest self before the year begins. 2020, and more importantly 28, looks like taking up space, choosing to swim instead of sink, and being more tired, but never more true of heart.
tourist: Palo Duro Canyon
PDC is one of those places that I will never get tired of photographing, or visiting. Even though it only ranks as the second biggest canyon statewide, I still love it all the same. I couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather or company to spend a few hours exploring.
tourist: Cadillac Ranch (in color)
In what will be a shocking turn of events for no one, Cadillac Ranch made the list for yet another hometown tour with a couple of humans I love. Somehow I convinced two more rowdy babes to make the trek to Amarillo with me for a weekend, and many shenanigans ensued (as expected), including this stylish pilgrimage.
